Eisriesenwelt is the largest ice cave in the world. It is located near Salzburg; Werfen is situated nearby - to reach the cave you have to take the A10 motorway, coming to Werfen (it's across the street from the Hohenwerfen castle). The road to the cave is beautiful, you can admire the castle from above and the valley of the Salzach river.
There are many parking places, including a special parking for coaches.
In a modern building near the parking lot you can find the souvenir shop and you can buy tickets; here there’s also a small terrace and some toilets.
Full ticket price (ascending and descending) is 19 euro per person. SalzburgerLand card will not help here - you will not have any reduction.
To reach the cave must go through a fairly long trail, which can be tedious for those who are not "trained".
The entire visit takes up to 3-4 hours and requires two rounds of climbing and a cable care ride up the mountain.

The entire visit takes up to 3-4 hours and requires two rounds of climbing and a cable care ride up the mountain.
Coming out of the modern building where you got tickets, you must climb about 20 minutes through the woods on a path partially covered. The first part of the climb is relaxing, you can enjoy the Salzach river valley and the castle.
After this walk, there is a cable car – it takes up to 3 minutes to arrive. Departures are every 10 minutes.
Once you are up, 20 minutes of real climbing follow, on a path that will lead directly to the cave - this part is a little tiring. When you exit the cable car, you should notice a nice villa, Dr. Oedl-House - should be retained for the descent:)
The road to the cave is covered in some parts – there are rock falls.
You can enter inside the cave until 4 pm (depending on weather and the number of visitors), and the entire tour lasts approximately 75 minutes.
Cave temperature is constant - 0 degrees Celsius; you should have sufficiently thick clothing, but not very thick – inside the cave you must climb approximately 700 steps.
At the entrance you will be provided with a lamp - the cave is not lit, the light will guide you along the route to the main frozen objectives (you will be lead by a guide that speaks English / German). Inside the cave you are not allowed to photograph or to film.
At the exit, after the steep descent, before taking the cable car you must stop at Dr. Oedl-House for some hot coffee and an apple pie (you will pay about 8 euro for both). The view of the entire valley is superb.
The whole experience is unique; the cave is truly wonderful, it is really the world of the ice giants.
